The British army Jerkin was introduced in the Great war around 1916 to help keep soldiers warm in the trenches when worn over the SD tunic. they soon proved popular as it was warm, hard wear and very practical to work and fight in. Still issued in WW2 and used by all armed services including Dispatch riders.
