WW1 1917a1 Wooden Ammunition Chest - 49-1-84 US Army Issue
The chest is wood (so pre WW2 as they the military started making them in steel in 1942) and the ends are dovetailed. The clasp is brass as is the hinge, but the handle is leather. The few that are still out there rarely have the leather handles. The inside still has the 3 painted arrows showing the load direction. The box is just over 12 inches long, 4.5 inches wide, and 8 inches tall.
