XIX Corps was constituted as the III Armored Corps at Camp Polk, Louisiana on 7 July 1942 under the command of Major General Willis D. Crittenberger. It was activated on 20 August the same year at Camp Polk. It was retitled as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, XIX Corps, on 10 October 1943. It fought as part of the First and Ninth U.S. Armies in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns of World War II.

Disbanded on 5 September 1945 in France
