US Air Force Emergency Signalling Mirror Mark 3 1985 (boxed) HOWARD

The MIL-M-18371E Mark 3 Emergency Signalling Mirror has been the visual signalling tool of choice for the US military for decades. This glass mirror is substantially more reflective than its plastic counterparts, and can be used to attract rescuers from distances farther than the naked eye can see. The Mark 3 Signalling Mirror's integral sighting aperture with wire mesh helps aim the reflection, a feature that became standard for all signal mirrors that came after it. Also known as a heliograph, these mirrors are popular for aviation and marine survival kits, and are usually carried in the survival vests of US military aviators. Both types of mirror are approximately 5/8 in. thick. The Type I is smaller and weighs just over 2 oz., while the larger Type II mirror weighs just over 5 oz.
