299. Infanterie-Division was formed on 9 February 1940 in Wehrkreis IX . The division took part in the campaign in the west 1940 . In autumn 1940 , they gave away part of the division's crew to 113. Infanterie-Division , 319th Infantry Division and the 339th Infantry Division . The losses were replaced by new recruits.
The division fought in the southern part of the eastern front and were designated in March 1942 as Gruppe Moser .
Late summer 1943 was the 299th Infantry-Division part of Army Group My and took part in the defensive battles that followed the Soviet forces launched an offensive after the battle of Kursk . The division retreated against Gomel and Bobruisk.
The summer of 1944 was carried Soviet summer offensive operation Bagration , during which 299 Infanterie-Division was crushed. The remnants of the division were gathered together in East Prussia in mid- July and was organized as a Division Gruppe 299 which became part of the Korps-Abteilung G . A dressing organized about the same time of the division division staff and consisted of multiple residues of crushed infantry divisions. Korps-Abteilung G reorganized the 1 september the new 299th Infantry-Division .
