Made of silver, the design is of a paulonia leaf, symbolizing the Imperial Family. The leaf, enameled in green, is accompanied by flowers, with complimenting purple enameling. On the reverse of this 8th Class medal are four Japanese characters which translate “Order of the Merit Decoration”. This attractive medal (as pictured) is housed in its original presentation case.
The Order of the Rising Sun (Kyuokujit-susho) medal was awarded by the Japanese government to both military and civilian personnel for general merit and was given both to Japanese and to foreign individuals.
