On 2 May 1939 the 'Oberkommando des Heeres' authorized wear of a distinctive 'Edelweiß' tradition badge for Mountain Troop personnel and the design of the badge was based on a pattern worn by German Alpine troops in World War 1. This is a metal insignia for wear on the left side of the mountain cap. The badge is showing the famous 'Edelweiß' flower.
