2-10 R.I. werd op 18 juni 1945 te Enschede opgericht uit BS personeel afkomstig uit Twenthe. Toch is dit bataljon nooit als een streek-bataljon bekend geweest. Op Oost-Jave koos het de tijgerkop met opengesperde bek als embleem, het in Indië vermaarde symbool voor moed en durf.
