The 'Schalkhaar' Police was a Police unit during the war, named after the place Schalkhaar near Deventer. In Schalkhaar was the training facility of the unit. This unit was controlled by the Dutch NSB movement.
New policemen were trained entirely according to National Socialist ideology. These ‘Schalkhaarders' (named after the place where they were trained) were mostly deployed in The Hague and Amsterdam. In 1942, the Voluntary Auxiliary Police was established as an addition to the force. Members of the Dutch SS and the assault teams of the Dutch National Socialist Movement became members of the Voluntary Auxiliary Police. Together with the Schalkhaarders they became notorious as fanatic Jew hunters.
