A certificate awarded on Empire Day 24th May 1940 and 1941 Empire Day began in 1902 after Queen Victoria's death and was to 'remind children that they formed part of the British Empire, and that they might think with others in lands across the sea, what it meant to be sons and daughters of such a glorious Empire'. The certificate states that the recipient helped provide 'comfort and contentment' to Commonwealth troops who fought during the Second World War.
