Northern Cape Command (NC Cmd) [Afr: Kommandement Noordkaap] was established as a new Regional Command on 1 Aug 1986, all of which made up the South African Army's Territorial Force. After principal approval had been given by the Minister of Defence for the establishment, changing and disbanding of certain commands on 17 Feb 1986, the changes of boundaries and commands were approved by the Minister of Defence on 26 Mar 1986. Based in Kimberley, the new NC Cmd was responsible for the security of the region, forming the primary level of command for military operations in support of the Police. It also provided logistic, administrative and service support to units and formations operating in its area of responsibility. It was disbanded in 1999, after the South African Defence Review of 1998.
