The genesis of the SADF Equestrian Centre at Potchefstroomcan be traced to 1968, when Magnus Malan assumed commandof the Military Academy at Saldanha in the Western Cape,where his instructions were to ensure that officer candidates ofthe Defence Force who showed potential be trained in a manner to best tackle the challengesfacing the Republic and its responsibilities in South West Africa.
