PFrance - Legion Etrangere 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC)
The 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) is the only cavalry unit of the French Foreign Legion. The 1er REC, nicknamed Royal Étranger, was officially established in Tunisia in 1922, by merging together 4 squadrons having been stationed in this African country since 1921. The regiment participated in the Rif War, Great Syrian Revolt, World War II, First Indochina War, Algerian War, Gulf War and other military operations. The 1er REC remains the only active cavalry unit of the Foreign Legion (since the second one, 2e REC, was disbanded in 1962), and the only regiment (constituted before WWII) having never changed its title and insignia.
