The Decoration was instituted by King Ludwig II on 24 June 1884 ‘for those members of the voluntary Fire Service who have given 25 years’ service characterised by loyalty and zeal'.
The Decoration was suppressed at the end of 1918 and had not, in fact, been awarded since 1915.
