The Griswold bag, known originally as the “Container, Individual Aerial Delivery Rifle,” was adopted in the late Spring of 1942. It securely held a disassembled M-1 rifle, and attached to the parachute harness with a snap hook. The container was closed with a steel zipper and snap and was standard issue on all airborne operations through Normandy.
