The Tropal cold weather coat was a bulky and stiff garment that although warm in freezing temperatures proved to be impractical for normal duties. It restricted the man's ability to move and was too large for his personal equipment to fit over it (apart from the haversack of the service respirator being draped over the neck and shoulders), therefore was normally only worn by static gun crews and sentries.

Full length single-breasted heavy-weight coat made of orange-brown of canvas. The coat has a deep serge-faced collar and has two side pockets with flaps. Lined with a waterproof material, with the chest and trunk insulated further with sheepskin fleece (later examples had a quilted kapok lining). The coat is fastened by five metal loops and catches.
