Both the bayonet and the rifle Lee Enfield No1 MKIII 'Intermediate' were only produced on small scale. Approximately 100 examples of the rifle were manufactured, although the rifle was never actually adopted. It is believed that only around 2000 bayonets were produced. The official designation for the bayonet was 'Bayonet Parachutist, ex machete 'I' type' and it was intended for Paratroop and Commando use in jungle warfare against the Japanese.
