The front of the pin shows the head of a soldier wearing a WWII Swiss stahlhelm, in detailed bas-relief. The back shows Christmas greetings in the four official languages of Switzerland: "Soldatenweihnacht" (German), "Le Noël du Soldat" (French), "Il Natale del Soldato" (Italian), and "Nadel del Sudo" (Romansh). The back of the pin also shows the date, "1940," and the maker/location, "P. Kramer Neuchatel."

pins like this were sold to the Swiss public as a fundraising campaign for the benefit of soldiers serving at the borders during the Christmas season of 1940. Another source says that these pins were presented by the Swiss army to soldiers on active duty during Christmas of 1940.
