The Brigade was formed in Negri Sembilam, Malaya, in July 1950. It stayed in Malaya until January 1962 when Brigade HQ, 1/6 Gurkha Rifles and elements of Gurkha Engineers transferred to the UK where they merged with elements of 51st Infantry Brigade to form 51st Gurkha Brigade.
