An early issue, large, aluminum construction mess kit with a steel swivel handle and carrying wire. Based on the WWI pattern mess kit, this 2 liter capacity version has the same kidney shape as the army M31 pattern but with extra height. The front has four small impressed horizontal lines, for measuring 1/2 liters. Metal carrying handle mounts are riveted to each upper side of the body. The swivel wire carrying handle is intact. The removable top lid has a riveted, hinged handle with raised loops for the carrying straps. Retains about 70% of its original green paint. 1939 marked. Shows the expected age and use.
